2017 Solo Flight Milestones

Pittsburgh, PA. Judith Galbraith successfully completed first solo flying Pittsburgh Soaring Association’s Blanik L23 on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Instructor, Al Benet Al Bennett, CFIG (on right) offers Judith a “well done” congratulations while recently-soloed pilot, Tom Landau (left), prepares a nice shower for Judith. Nice flying Judith! We’re proud of you!

Pittsburgh, PA – On June 17, 2017 Tom Landau soloed in the Pittsburgh Soaring Association’s Blanik L23.  Tom joined PSA April 2016 after being brought to the gliderport by his son, Luke, a commercial pilot and CFI, with whom he had previously logged 20 hours of powered flight.  In the photo, Tom (at left) is presented with his SSA ‘A’ badge and congratulations by Al Bennett CFIG (on right) as Murray Beyer lends a hand with the water bucket.

Pittsburgh, PA – On June 11, 2017 Tim Depaolis soloed in the Pittsburgh Soaring Association’s Blanik L23.  Tim is the most recent addition to the PSA roster, having signed up almost exactly one month earlier.  His rapid progression to solo status can be attributed to his arriving with a single engine land certificate, good instruction and his motivation to make aviation his career.  In the photo, Tim (at left) is presented with his SSA “A” badge and congratulations by Al Bennett CFIG (on right) as Murray Beyer evaluates his water-dousing handiwork.
